I have been working on a post about things you can do to help birds, because bird populations are declining in many areas. A few days ago, I found an article that contains many of the same suggestions and says it all very well. Here’s the link.
Right now, and for a “limited time,” anyone in the United States between the age of 13 and 21 can apply for a free Brooklyn Public Library eCard, which gives access to 350,000 eBooks, 200,000 audiobooks, and online databases. (Normally, Brooklyn Public Library eCards are only free for people who live and/or work in New York state.)

So… you’re applying for an academic job and need to write a cover letter. Where do you start?
In my experience, there are 3 types: the Research cover letter, the Teaching cover letter, and the Hybrid cover letter.
Research - focuses on your research experience, including your dissertation, any articles you’ve published, conferences you’ve attended, etc.
Teaching - mentions the dissertation but mostly focuses on your teaching experience
Hybrid - talks about research and teaching in equal amounts
Before you begin, choose the type that will best respond to the academic job ad you’re responding to. If the job add is for a position at an R1 school, you might want to go with a research or hybrid letter. If the job ad is for a position at a small liberal arts college or the ad mentions teaching a 3/2 or more load (3 classes per semester, 2 semester per year), go with a hybrid or teaching cover letter. Use your intuition.
After that, there are a few more pointers I can give that will help structure your letter.
